Teen Pregnancy Prevention

Since 1995, Hispanics/Latinas have had the highest teen birth rate among the major racial/ethnic groups in the United States.

Program Description and Goals:

This program seeks to lower teen pregnancy and birth rates using a curriculum which teaches valuable life skills, stresses youth activities, and public awareness.

Goal I
- To target adolescent Hispanic/Latino youths (both boys and girls) with sexuality education. Sexuality education is provided using Project Reality Game Plan and Navigator – nationally recognized abstinence education curricula.

Goal II
— To provide additional education and training opportunities through outside speakers who make age-appropriate presentations on a variety of health topics and other family planning methods.

Goal III
- To create public awareness using a comprehensive campaign directed toward the Hispanic/Latino community, involving a youth-produced video and participation in the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.
