YOUR RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In a relationship you have the right:

Ø  To be respected

Ø  To choose to be in a relationship

Ø  To not be hurt physically or emotionally

Ø  To refuse affection or intimacy at any time

Ø  To have friends and activities apart from your partner

Ø  To end the relationship

 

You have the responsibility to:

Ø  Always treat your partner with respect

Ø  Never hurt you partner physically, mentally or emotionally

Ø  Respect your partner’s decisions

Ø  Not be manipulative or controlling

Ø  Accept responsibility for yourself and your actions

 

Under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act you have the right to:

Ø  Meet with a counselor

Ø  Request an order of protection

Ø  Be protected from further abuse or harassment

Ø  Request assistance from the police
