Shavonda Mitchom, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer

Hoyleton Youth and Family Services is pleased to announce that Shavonda Mitchom, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer will begin her role with us on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Growing up in Southern Illinois, Shavonda was active in many community activities and enjoyed school. She utilized youth programs such as TRIO Upward Bound to ensure she could continue her education and attend college. Shavonda went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from Illinois State University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from SIU Carbondale. She contributes much of her educational success to the TRIO program and understands firsthand the critical importance of community programs for underserved youth and families.

Shavonda most recently served as the Director of Business Affairs for the College of Arts and Sciences at SIUe where she helped the college navigate complex fiscal issues, and implement new and innovative ways to grow academic programs and manage responsibly the finances of the college. Prior roles include the Deputy Executive Director of the SIUe East St. Louis Center and supervisory financial positions at the Federal Reserve Bank locations in Chicago and St. Louis and Washington University in St. Louis. Shavonda has had the opportunity to assume progressive levels of responsibility over the course of her career and proven to be a dynamic leader.

Her experience at the East St. Louis Center provided her the ability to contribute to programs serving youth in grades pre-K through 12, provide funding that wasn’t available before and give back to youth and families based in the metro East. Shavonda values the fact that she has been instrumental in bringing opportunities to the community and youth, as she had in Carbondale growing up. Shavonda is looking forward to her career at Hoyleton and is excited to be a part of a faith based organization, with a commitment to the clients and families we serve.
Shavonda lives in Fairview Heights, Illinois and has two daughters, Kai and Niara. Her oldest daughter, Kai is a junior at Illinois State University in Normal studying integrated marketing and accounting and her youngest, Niara is a 3rd grader. Shavonda also raised her niece, Joshalynn who now an adult, is a graduate of SIUe with her BSW and MSW. For the past 8 months, they have welcomed their puppy, Teddy into their home. Shavonda enjoys spending time with family, running and Zumba, and sharing her natural hair journey to educate, inspire and empower authenticity and self-confidence in others.
All of us at Hoyleton welcome Shavonda Mitchom.
